“Jenny’s great with connecting people,” Hilary said. “She’s always saying
‘Oh, you need to know so and so.” These connections deepened when Jenny learned
of her involvement with Ronald McDonald House Charities, where Hilary serves on
the Board of Directors. Hilary started volunteering with Ronald McDonald House
in the ninth grade through Springtime Tallahassee.
“We were kind of a natural match,” Jenny said. “Every time Hilary comes in, we
talk about Midtown, and she tells me about all of the things she does in
Midtown. We talk about our charitable involvements; she always talks about
Ronald
McDonald House like it’s her family, telling me about the positive impact that
the charity is having in the life of so many families.” Hilary echoes this
admiration, “Jenny’s so friendly and professional, she’s easy to talk to and
just an awesome person. And [Green Peridot] has always donated for our golf
tournaments and silent auctions.”
In their photo for this story, Jenny and Hilary are wearing t-shirts promoting
Ronald McDonald House’s “11 Campaign.” The shirt design features eleven in
eleven different languages, representing eleven locations worldwide where Ronald
McDonald House Charities provide housing and support for families of children
undergoing medical treatment. The 11 Campaign is their drive to increase
awareness that a donation of only $11 ensures a free night’s stay for a family
in need. The goal of the campaign is to raise as many $11 donations as possible
by 11/11/2011. There is an interactive website: 11rmh.com where anyone can post
their “11 story.” It is linked to Facebook, Twitter, and UTube. “It’s so cool to
see all the different stories and pictures out there” stated Hilary.
“It's obvious we were both
taught to lead by example.”
"So what’s your eleven? Mine is starting Hilly Beans Couture, a clothing line
for children where a percentage of each purchase goes back to charities for
children."
Jenny has been at Green Peridot since 2006, and has been a stylist for 14 years.
“I was mentored, and I was shown how to teach young stylists the value of giving
back to the community. It's more than just doing hair for me, and Hilary and I
share that. The people who work and stay at Ronald McDonald House are her
friends and family. It’s obvious we were both taught to lead by example.”
Ronald McDonald House serves both of Tallahassee’s hospitals, and because of
our large university population, serves families with children through age 21.
You can purchase shirts supporting the 11 Campaign through the Ronald McDonald
